That said, they will also inhabit homes and other buildings frequented by people. Honeybee colonies are also much larger than bumblebee colonies. There can be up to 10,000 or 80,000 bees in one colony.

Within the United States, carpenter bees are put into two categories: small carpenter bees and large carpenter bees. Both are wood-damaging organisms similar to termites. Unlike termites, they don’t eat the wood, but they still chew through it to build cavernous nests. The small carpenter bee is metallic in color and has yellow markings on the face. The large carpenter bee can be black, greenish black, or metallic and is similar in size to bumble bees.
